To buy local crafts on Réunion Island, the easiest way is to head to the street markets, craft shops and galleries, and the gift shops of the island’s visitor sites. Tropical Factory bags are available at sixteen points of sale on the island, including our own stall at the Saint-Paul street market, as well as in the online shop.
Here is where to find us, and how to choose in store.

The Saint-Paul street market, our regular meeting point
The Tropical Factory stall is at the Saint-Paul street market every Friday from 8 am to 2 pm and every Saturday from 8 am to noon. It is our own stall: you can see the bags in person and ask your questions directly. All our tips are in our post on the Saint-Paul street market.

Why buy local crafts
- To support the people who create on the island: every purchase in a local shop keeps creators, shopkeepers and venues going.
- To come home with an object that has a story: a pattern, a name, an inspiration from Réunion Island.
- To avoid mass-produced souvenirs: something designed here does not look like what you find everywhere else.
How to choose a bag in store
Think about use before the pattern
A beach bag, a shopping bag, an insulated picnic bag and a pouch do not meet the same needs. Decide on the size first, then let the pattern win you over.
Touch, open, compare
In a shop you can check the real size, open the bag and picture what you will put in it. For insulated bags, look at the closure and the inside.
Think about the journey home
If you are flying, a soft bag and a pouch slip easily into a suitcase.
Note the design’s name
Every Tropical Factory bag has a name: Pitaya, Kori, Letchi, Paille-en-queue... If you fall for a design but the size you want is not on the shelf, write the name down: you may find it in the online shop.
Two examples of our designs
The designs on display vary from place to place. Here are two examples from the range:
- Pitaya, inspired by the brightly coloured tropical fruit, as an XL classic tote, the one in this post’s photo;
- Kori, inspired by the cowrie shell, as an XL classic, XL insulated bag, pouch, insulated lunch bag S and insulated bottle bag 1.5 L.
